Olveston Historic Home, Dunedin, New Zealand
Olveston was built for Dunedin businessman, collector and philanthropist David Theomin. Designed by acclaimed English architect Sir Ernest George, the 35-room mansion was built between 1904-6 styled as an 'English country house in the city'.
The house was designed to the highest standards, fitted with modern features such as a lift, an electric generator for lighting and full central heating. The house was furnished with artworks, antiques, furniture and artefacts from all around the world.
The house and the original family possessions were gifted by the last member of the family to the City of Dunedin in 1966.
Fully furnished, Olveston is a time capsule as little has changed since it was the Theomin Family home.

St Clair and St Kilda City Beaches
St Clair and St Kilda beaches are located on the eastern suburbs of Dunedin bearing the same names. They are easily accessible and offer white sand, great surf and swimming or a place to relax while you breathe in the ocean air.

Tunnel Beach
Best at low tide this twenty minute easy walk from the car park on Tunnel Beach Road through private farm land takes you to a magnificent sandstone sea arch and man-made tunnel to the secluded beach with fossil filled cliffs on all sides.
You can catch a local bus to Corstorphine on route 32, 33, 34, 35 or 36. From the corner of Middleton Road and Stenhope Crescent it is approximately 30 minutes walk to the start of the track. You can check the bus timetable on the Otago Regional Council website www.orc.govt.nz
Brighton Beach
20km SW of Dunedin, Brighton is a small seaside town, along the Southern Scenic Route within the city limits of Dunedin. The area is popular for day trips from Dunedin. Surf-lifesaving patrols are on duty here during busy times.
The motorcamp in Brighton also hires out boats for you take a leisurely paddle up the stream.
South Seas Gallery is very popular in Brighton, where visitors can stroll the gardens and view works from such artists as Lindsay Crooks, Janet Weir and Ollie Crooks.
Dunedin Street Art trail
Dunedin has a rich history in the arts and of making art freely available for all to enjoy. It is unsurprising, then, that the city is now embracing street art, with an increasing number of blank walls being transformed into works of art by local and international artists.
Experience these vibrant, whimsical artworks on the Dunedin Street Art trail. Artists include ROA (Belguim), Pixel Pancho (Italy), Phlegm (UK), Natalia Rak (Poland), Dal East (China), Mica Still (NZ) to name a few.

Dunedin Public Art Gallery houses New Zealand’s oldest public art collection. Light & airy and situated in The Octagon, the gallery is itself a work of art. Old masters feature in its permanent collection, which also contains significant works by local artists including Ralph Hotere and Frances Hodgkins. The gallery has a programme of residencies and exhibitions showcasing contemporary artists.
Gallery De Novo is situated on lower Stuart Street; Goldsmith Tony Williams, Temple Gallery, Quadrant Gallery and Whiteroom design shop are on Moray Place – as is the avant-garde Blue Oyster space – while The Artist’s Room, Milford Galleries and Brett McDowell Gallery are nearby on Dowling Street.
Olveston Historic Home located on Royal Terrace has one of the largest collection of New Zealand and International art on permanent display in the city.
