Gisborne Region

General

The untouched coastlines, remote rural towns and spectacular scenery are well worth the effort of visiting the Gisborne region.

Check out the East Cape Lighthouse or the impressive pier at Tologa Bay and meet enchanting locals residing in the small seaside towns.  Mount Hikurangi is a non-volcanic mountain located approximately 130km north of Gisborne City.  You can climb to the summit and greet the first sunrise of New Zealand.  The region is surrounded by stunning coastlines, which make a perfect playground for snorkeling, fishing, swimming and surfing.  Take the whole family to enjoy an afternoon at Rere Rock slide, which is a natural rockslide, found about 40 minutes out of Gisborne City.  It is covered by constantly running water that falls over the rocks and makes for a wild ride on a boogie board or inflatable device. There are also great wineries to visit throughout the region.
